There Is No Poetry In Airports

there is no poetry in airports
eleven ante meridiem in Manchester’s
temple to flight
borne in perfect denial of the very idea
of the divine
who could have drawn it like this?
God took one look at departures and departed
and so we are are left down here alone in it
lost morass of lamb dressed in our full human worst
with nothing but series upon series of numbers
an unholy mass become duty free
and once up
clothed in plane hum wheeze
entrusted once again in the safety
of private school strangers
we are leaving this place
already becoming beyond it and yet still morning
the spaniards drink coffee
the english beer
imagine embarking upon a dry stomach
what real english horror
