The last time we locked horns with self-proclaimed ‘rock evangelist’ David Keenan was Thursday 8th September 2022 – the day the Queen died.
There is no shortage of drama wherever he plots up. In person, and on the page, he's a whirlwind.
His latest – VOLCANIC TONGUE: A TIME-TRAVELLING EVANGELIST’S GUIDE TO LATE 20th CENTURY UNDERGROUND MUSIC – is a collection of emotionally generous features, extended reviews and think pieces, culled mostly from his stint as a regular contributor to The Wire magazine from the mid-1990s – 2015.
By turns dazzling and elegiac, he’s up to his usual business, creating a page-pulse entirely of his own. And his naked kind of investment in the likes of Peter Brotzman, Jandek, Hair Police and co. play out like a grail quest.
Join us for a night of sincerely manic idealism as Austin Collings interviews the rock evangelist himself. This will be followed by a set of underground sounds - a playlist of fire and throbbing magma - stitched together by DK himself.
